In honor of World AIDS Day, The U.S. Department of State’s Office of the Global AIDS Coordinator hosted the PEPFAR Faith Communities and HIV Technical Summit event from November 27-28, 2018. The event brought together faith leaders and members of the faith community from around the globe to renew PEPFAR’s commitment to engaging with faith-based organizations in our pursuit of reaching epidemic control. USAID Administrator Mark Green, along with USAID’s senior deputy administrator for the Bureau for Global Health Alma Golden, participated.

Administrator Green provided closing remarks, to which he reminded attendees that “the most important days are still ahead of us” to control the epidemic, further noting that “our primary objective is to help countries on their journeys to self-reliance so they can better respond to their people and chase their own bright future. In the fight against AIDS, we are re-dedicating ourselves, working through PEPFAR, and with all of you to empower communities and countries to gradually assume ownership of their own healthcare challenges.” View Administrator Green’s full remarks here.

Following the event, Vice President Pence announced that the United States government, through PEPFAR, will invest $100 million to address key gaps toward achieving HIV epidemic control and ensuring justice for children, including by leveraging the unique capacities and compassion of faith-based organizations and communities.
