The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is partnering with the Government of Pakistan at both the federal and provincial levels to improve the lives of the people of Sindh.

USAID/BHA announces additional funding for Honduras, Guatemala, and Colombia, bringing the total USAID/BHA funding allocated to the response to nearly $48 million. Relief actors highlight health, nutrition, protection, and WASH needs among populations remaining in evacuation shelters in Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. DoD fulfills all humanitarian missions in Guatemala and Honduras, transporting 257 MT of urgently needed supplies to reach storm-affected communities.

In response to the urgent threat posed to the population of Botswana and its healthcare system by the spread of COVID-19, the United States Government (USG) through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) committed $1.5 million dollars to support the Government of Botswana’s (GoB) swift and decisive response to COVID-19 and to protect the nation from this global coronavirus pandemic.

As the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season comes to an end, floodwaters remain in areas of Guatemala and Honduras affected by Hurricanes Eta and Iota. Storm damage to health care facilities in Honduras risks increased spread of COVID-19, PAHO reports. USAID/BHA is providing emergency shelter materials to assist communities to repair damaged structures in Honduras. USAID/BHA supports UNICEF to scale up protection and WASH assistance in Nicaragua.

USAID’s Iraq Governance Performance and Accountability (IGPA, known as “Takamul” or “integration” in Arabic) project supports the Government of Iraq’s efforts to strengthen public financial management and tangibly improve the delivery of essential services through locally-led reform initiatives.

The primary goal of the USAID Healthy Mother Healthy Baby activity is to improve the nutritional status and prevent morbidity and mortality of mothers and children under two as well as improve the quality and availability of lifesaving, evidence-based health interventions for women and children in the Feed the Future’s geographic area in Khatlon province.  

FEWS NET estimates damage from the storms will exacerbate acute food insecurity for many households in Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Government of Nicaragua assesses countrywide damages and economic losses from Eta and Iota total $738 million. USAID/BHA provides funding to support several relief agencies delivering humanitarian assistance in Honduras, while JTF-Bravo rescues people from and transports assistance to isolated areas.

USAID’s Competitiveness, Trade and Jobs activity facilitates trade and employment in horticulture, tourism, transport, and logistics across the five Central Asian economies. By incentivizing firms to become more regionally competitive and by addressing cross-border impediments to trade, USAID helps to develop a more diverse and competitive private sector and generate export-driven growth.

Relief organizations continue to assess the extent of damages from Hurricanes Eta and Iota on Colombia’s San Andrés and Providencia islands, where approximately 9,100 people were affected by the storms, according to the UN. To support Colombia’s National Disaster Risk Management Unit (UNGRD) and other actors responding to humanitarian needs on the islands, on November 23, USAID/BHA established a humanitarian air bridge to shuttle relief supplies from San Andrés to Providencia—the more heavily impacted of the two islands.
