Cairo – In celebration of International Youth Day, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is promoting youth employment and girls’ empowerment in partnership with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and UNICEF.
USAID supports Egyptian efforts in Minya, Assiut, Sohag, and Qena to provide adolescents and youth with key life, employability, and entrepreneurial skills. As part of “Meshwary” project, USAID is also helping to build a cadre of career guidance counselors for the Ministry of Youth and Sports. This is one component of a larger USAID-UNICEF project to empower adolescent girls and combat female genital mutilation.
“Through the “Meshwary” project, we are equipping the next generation of Egypt’s youth with skills they need to be successful in the labor market – and in life,” stated USAID/Egypt Mission Director Sherry F. Carlin at the International Youth Day event. “We are helping young people promote economic inclusion, advocate for girls’ empowerment, and reach their full potential.”
