USAID works to preserve Ecuador’s fragile ecosystems and immense biodiversity, mitigating the impacts of climate change and increasing access to sustainable energy sources. To achieve this, USAID: a) partners with the GOE to implement ambitious emissions reduction measures, b) protect critical ecosystems, c) transition to renewable energy, and d) promote the flow of capital toward climate-positive investments.
USAID works with Ecuador as a good steward of the environment combating corruption and criminal activity profiting from timber, wildlife, mineral and fisheries resources. In partnership with indigenous and local communities, as well as the private sector, USAID provides economic alternatives to unsustainable practices and strengthens environmental and resource management of terrestrial and marine protected areas.
