The USAID Project Management Specialist (Infectious Disease) is a member of the USAID/Central America Regional HIV/AIDS team and serves as one of the team’s public health advisors, located in USAID/Guatemala’s Office of Health and Education. S/he is the Senior Infectious Disease Specialist Technical Advisor and Activity Manager for USAID’s Central America Regional HIV/AIDS Program, which is part of the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) - the U.S. Government’s response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Central America. The incumbent reports to the Regional HIV/AIDS Team Leader. S/he provides technical and strategic input into the USAID/Central America Regional HIV/AIDS portfolio. HIV/AIDS program activities take place in El Salvador, Guatemala, Panama, Honduras and Nicaragua. The incumbent is based in Guatemala City, Guatemala, with regular travel throughout the region.

The Project Management Specialist works in complex and rapidly evolving country contexts, requiring regular and close collaboration, at technical and policy levels, with counterparts in each of the Central American countries where the program operations, i.e. ministries and agencies; multilateral and bilateral donors; international organizations, civil society, and private sector companies; and with other U.S. Government (USG) entities. The Project Management Specialist participates regularly in Mission and interagency working groups that cover topics such as health, partnerships, sustainability, LGBT issues and migration. S/he has broad responsibilities in designing, managing, and evaluating programs, projects, and activities that support HIV/AIDS epidemic control in the five countries in Central America and in support of USG initiatives.
