USAID and development partners are increasingly looking to support countries in the process of adopting technologies to create public value — broadly referred to as digital government — while mitigating and avoiding significant risks. The Digital Government initiative supports governments to use digital tools responsibly for coordinated, efficient, resilient, responsive, accountable, and participatory service delivery.

Digital government is the use of digital technologies as an integrated part of government strategies. Digital government systems can be used to manage internal processes, deliver government services, and engage with stakeholders.

The initiative team seeks to:

  1. Support partner countries to have the requisite capabilities to institute effective and responsible digital government;
  2. Ensure USAID personnel have the knowledge and skills to design and manage responsible digital government activities.
  3. Enable the Agency to develop partnerships and initiatives that influence the ecosystem for digital governments.

Read the Digital Government Model to explore the core components of digital government and the contextual and foundational elements that influence the success of investments in digital government tools.

Digital Societies and Governments – Diia Partnership Initiative

The Digital Societies and Governments team advances responsible digital government, which includes identifying digital government risks and opportunities and elevating the importance of data governance. As part of USAID's support for digital transformation and Administrator Power's prioritization of helping partners adopt technologies that foster strong citizen engagement, the Digital Societies team leads the implementation of Diia modeling efforts in selected USAID partner countries.
