About the Data Set
The Bangladesh Integrated Household Survey dataset is a thorough assessment of current standard of food security in Bangladesh taken from 2011-2012. The dataset includes all baseline household surveys made under the USAID-led Feed the Future initiative, a collaborative effort that supports country-owned processes and plans for improving food security and promoting transparency, and within the Zones of Influence as outlined by the Feed the Future Bangladesh plan .
The BIHS sample is statistically representative at the following levels: (a) nationally representative of rural Bangladesh; (b) representative of rural areas of each of the seven administrative divisions of the country: Barisal, Chittagong, Dhaka, Khulna, Rajshahi, Rangpur, and Sylhet; and, (c) representative of the Feed the Future (FTF) zone of influence. The sampling of the FTF locations (districts and upazilas)has been done separately for its statistical analysis.. The survey has detailed data on (1) plot-level agricultural production and practices, (2) dietary intake of individual household members, and (3) anthropometric measurements (height and weight) of all household members.
The survey was designed and supervised by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI). The survey was administered by Data Analysis and Technical Assistance, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Funding for the survey was provided by United States Agency for International Development (USAID). To protect the personal information of respondents, all personal identifiable information was removed, and the final dataset has been approved for publication by the Government of Bangladesh. For explanations and limitations of the dataset, please read the Full Report.
