This week, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)-funded Governance Support Program, in partnership with the Hydrometeorology Service of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan and international experts, organized the second seminar on advanced automated meteorological measuring and information systems for weather forecasters in Ashgabat and Lebap. The Government of Turkmenistan is prioritizing the mitigation of climate change risks and the development of climate resilience strategies. USAID is proud to support the implementation of the country’s National Strategy on Climate Change by facilitating science and technology-based solutions and increasing the capacity of the government as well as citizens to adopt climate-friendly practices. In addition, this event is part of a series of USAID-supported interventions aimed at strengthening climate resilience in Turkmenistan.

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)-funded Safe Migration in Central Asia activity, implemented by Winrock International, partnered with government and non-governmental organizations across Central Asia to hold a month-long online campaign dedicated to Safer Internet Day, marked annually on February 08 to promote safer and more responsible use of online technology by children and young people around the world.

On February 8-12, 2022, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)-funded Central Asia Media Program is hosting its third annual innovative seminar on media and digital literacy, MediaCAMP Eduthon 2022. The online event is gathering university professors, schoolteachers, media trainers, and experts in the field of media and digital literacy from Central Asia and beyond to promote media literacy in the region. Over the course of five days, 30 participants from Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan will gain new skills and be mentored as they develop projects promoting media literacy.

Today, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) marked the successful completion of its five-year, regional Competitiveness, Trade, and Jobs activity. The activity facilitated Central Asian exports and increased employment in horticulture, transport and logistics services, and tourism industries. The activity successfully increased competitiveness and expanded trade in these sectors within the region and beyond.

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)-funded Safe Migration in Central Asia activity, implemented by Winrock International, partnered with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Central Asia to hold a four-day online campaign dedicated to International Migrants Day, marked annually on December 18. The campaign shared stories of migrants to raise awareness on migrants’ rights. More than a dozen NGOs from Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan joined the online campaign to tell stories of migrants who improved their lives after returning home and receiving support from the USAID-funded Safe Migration in Central Asia activity.
Today, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)-funded Kazakhstan Rule of Law Program, implemented by American Bar Association/Rule of Law Initiative (ABA ROLI), in cooperation with the Committee for Civil Society Affairs under the Ministry of Information and Social Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan (MISD), organized a meeting focused on Kazakhstan’s potential application to join the Open Government Partnership (OGP). The OGP is an international platform that includes 78 governments and thousands of civil society organizations (CSOs) that are committed to making their governments more open, accountable and responsive to citizens. The event provided local CSOs, government officials, and international experts a platform to discuss the value and benefits of joining the OGP, and the challenges and opportunities of Kazakhstan’s potential membership.

In celebration of International Human Rights Day, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in partnership with the Public Association Kadyr Kasiet or “Dignity” in English, announced the launch of a new activity called Human Rights Focus: Women and Children at an event held at the Schoolchildren’s Palace.
Through a U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) grant, the Red Crescent of Kazakhstan, has started the provision of financial assistance to the most vulnerable households affected by drought in Mangystau oblast.

On November 3, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) commemorates a major milestone, marking 60 years since it was founded by President John F. Kennedy. USAID’s Regional Mission Central Asia joins a global celebration to mark the Agency’s 60th anniversary. For six decades, USAID has built its reputation as the world’s leader in international development by partnering with countries around the world to strengthen communities and improve lives.
