Press Release

October 8, 2022 Almaty, Kazakhstan – On October 8-10, 2022, over 200 media specialists from across Central Asia are gathering for the fourth annual Central Asia MediaCAMP Fest to network, share success stories, and discuss challenges faced by the media in the region. The Central Asia Media Program or MediaCAMP is funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by Internews.

This year the MediaCAMP Fest is taking place in-person, after two years online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The festival includes snap-talks, lectures, discussions, workshops, and film screenings on a range of media topics. Participants will discuss the role of the media at a time of crisis and information wars and learn about financial sustainability, innovations, and investigative journalism.

Emphasizing the importance of the media in society, USAID Central Asia’s Regional Deputy Mission Director, Luis Rivera, noted: “Journalists and independent media are key to presenting facts, debunking myths, promoting information liteыracy, and helping make institutions more transparent and accountable. I applaud your daily efforts to uphold journalistic integrity and achieve the goal of delivering the most complete and balanced story possible to your audience.”

The Central Asian MediaCAMP Fest will end with an awards ceremony on October 10. Now in its fourth year, the contest received 821 applications from across Central Asia, and 74 media stories were short-listed for awards in five categories: Time to Win; Time to Understand; Time of the Young; Topic of the Year - New Times; and Time to Build. The winner in the sixth, special category, Close-Up Time, is selected through an online voting on the festival’s website.

The complete agenda of the event is available on the official website of the festival. All sessions, except masterclasses, are available online on the festival’s websiteFacebook, and YouTube channel. The recorded masterclasses will be posted on the same platforms after their completion.
