USAID's Crisis Operations Specialists and related support roles enable rapid deployment of aid to over 100 countries for both unanticipated emergencies and prolonged crises situations. 

Our dedicated teams respond to situations ranging from humanitarian emergencies such as hurricanes and drought, to pandemics, conflict and political transitions. Crisis Operations work is challenging and rewarding as it helps mitigate the impacts of crisis situations around the world. 

COS Requirements

To be eligible for a Crisis Operations Staffing position, you must be:

  • A U.S. citizen
  • At least 18 years old
  • Able to obtain and maintain a security clearance
  • Meet education and experience requirements, including specialized placement factor

Additionally, while Crisis Operations Staff are based in the United States, staff must be able to meet specific medical standards for deployment to crisis locations.

If you meet any of the qualifying disabilities outlined in the Standard Form (SF) 256, you may be qualified for a non-competitive appointment to the federal government for persons with disabilities.
