●     Ladies and gentlemen

At USAID, we believe strongly in the collection and use of high-quality data for policy formation, program planning, and evaluation. In 2012, USAID together with other development partners and the Royal Government of Cambodia, supported Cambodia's first-ever agricultural census. That census, conducted in 2013, provided all stakeholders with detailed, reliable data on the agriculture sector for their interventions.

Three years later, we responded to the need for more, better, cost-effective, and timely statistical data with the Agriculture Integrated Survey, known as the Cambodia Inter-Censal Agriculture Survey 2019 or CIAS 2019.

Today, it is my great pleasure to join you for the official release and dissemination of CIAS 2019. As the prominent source of national level data in Cambodia, the CIAS 2019 will provide critical information to the Royal Government of Cambodia for policy design and implementation in agriculture development, poverty reduction, and economic growth.

The CIAS 2019 also serves as a vital source of agriculture data used by USAID, non-governmental organizations, and other partners to guide our programming and help to measure the impact of our collective investments in Cambodia’s agriculture sector. As Cambodia’s economy recovers from the losses brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, planners will need to make informed decisions about the next steps that must be taken and this data can help make that happen.

I would like to acknowledge the other partners who have provided both financial and technical contributions including the FAO, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, and the leadership of the Ministry of Planning and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. I would like to also acknowledge the strong commitment of the Royal Government of Cambodia to increase the availability and quality of agriculture data, in addition to its investments and resource mobilization towards this survey.

As all of us in the room are aware, planning and carrying out the survey is an immense task. It requires a high level of teamwork and coordination.  I know you will all join me as I congratulate the professionals involved in this joint accomplishment. Thank you for a job well done!

I am honored to take part in this important achievement today. I look forward to the dissemination of the final CIAS 2019 data and to continue our strong partnership to improve the agriculture sector in Cambodia.

Thank you!
