On May 14, 2018, U.S. Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina Maureen Cormack took part in the filming of a documentary being produced by and about USAID’s 10 youth ‘Reconciliation Ambassadors’ (RAs).

The RAs were selected as part of our re:Generation project’s Youth Advocacy Summit in September 2017, which gathered 200 young men and women from all parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). Re:Generation is a two-year project designed to engage BiH youth in reconciliation activities; the project is implemented by the International Republican Institute (IRI). The RAs were selected based on their demonstrated courage to speak up, to ask questions, and to take initiative.

Since late 2017, the RAs have been working with Magacin Kabare, a local award-winning artistic collective, to produce a film that confronts narratives of the past in BiH, examines the existing legacy of conflict, and works to provide a message of change for the country. The film documented their journey traveling around the country seeking and recording stories of peacebuilding.

They ended the filming phase of this journey with an on-camera meeting with Ambassador Cormack in Sarajevo to describe their experiences and interview her, as well.

Now in post-production, the documentary is expected to premiere in fall 2018. The USAID Ambassadors of Reconciliation will host viewings in each of their hometowns and use the documentary as a catalyst for a larger conversation on reconciliation and peace.
