USAID supports the Government of Indonesia in accelerating economic growth by advising on how to improve public financial management and making it easier to start and operate businesses. Through EGSA, USAID is rekindling relationships with key government and business partners in the economic growth sector.

At 8:29 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) on August 14, a magnitude 7.2 earthquake struck southwestern Haiti at a depth of 6.2 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The epicenter of the earthquake was located approximately 23.2 miles southwest of Sud Department’s Les Cayes town and 78 miles west of Haiti’s capital city of Port-au-Prince. USGS issued a red alert for earthquake-related fatalities and estimated economic losses, indicating that high casualties and extensive damage are probable and the disaster is likely widespread. USGS has reported multiple aftershocks following the earthquake, including at least 19 tremors measuring at or above magnitude 4.0. Buildings compromised by the initial earthquake are likely more vulnerable to additional tremors, according to the UN.

USAID JAPRI, meaning ‘become an entrepreneur’ in Indonesian, provides young entrepreneurs with training, mentoring services, and links to institutions that will help them start and grow businesses. USAID JAPRI prioritizes youth with disabilities, young women facing economic challenges, and low-income youth. The program improves entrepreneurship development providers’ ability to effectively train young entrepreneurs in necessary skills, including production, pricing, marketing, and creating business plans.

USAID’s Promoting Leadership and Activism of Youth (PLAY) for Peace in Libya (or “PLAY for Peace”) activity aims to increase youth participation in reconciliation efforts by providing safe spaces for dialogue and skills development, and opportunities for youth to engage with their communities. The two-year program seeks to reduce the likelihood of violence in Misrata, Tawergha, and Bani Walid in Western Libya by strengthening youth-to-youth relationships and promoting civic participation. 

The Meeting Targets and Maintaining HIV Epidemic Control (EpiC) Project is a five-year global project funded by the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), managed by FHI 360 and dedicated to achieving and maintaining HIV epidemic control.

Cacao Connects works with cacao-producing communities to build trust, inclusion, and shared norms needed to improve local governance and foster economic development.  The activity’s main objective is to enhance women and youth engagement, and it supports initiatives that strengthen women and youth’s capacity to act as local change agents and community leaders. 

The USAID partnership with Asociación Benéfica PRISMA contributes to the implementation of the National COVID-19 vaccination Plan in Perú.

This Alliance will support the formulation and revision of plans, the coordination among stakeholders, the supply chain management with focus on cold chain, vaccines management, the surveillance of adverse events attributable to the vaccine, community engagement and participation, vaccine demand, and communications and advocacy. It will have a strategy focused on contributing to achieve that indigenous communities and other vulnerable populations receive the vaccine with equity.

USAID’s Initiative to Strengthen Local Administrations project advances the goals and aspirations of national and sub-national government officials in development planning, effective citizen representation, and improved public service delivery. 

ADALAT’s (“justice” in Dari and Pashto) objective is to improve citizen access to justice. ADALAT increases efficiency and integrity in the formal justice system through technical assistance and the development of more robust court systems and procedures.

USAID’s Conflict Mitigation Assistance for Civilians project bolsters these efforts, providing assistance to Afghan families who suffer from the harsh impact of decades of war in Afghanistan.
