On July 30, USAID celebrated an important accomplishment in Yeghegnut community, in the Ararat Valley. For over two decades, the community had irregular, contaminated water supply. More than 70% of water was reportedly lost through deteriorated pipes, and residents had water access for only a few hours per day. USAID/Armenia’s Advanced Science and Partnerships for Integrated Resources Development (ASPIRED) and Participatory Utilization and Resource Efficiency of Water (PURE Water) projects together rehabilitated the village’s drinking water network by building a new pumping and chlorination station, and installing a new water line. The community also contributed by working on trenches and installing water meters. ASPIRED also supported the village’s conversion to a consumption-based water metering system through improved billing practices. As a result, over 2,200 residents will now have access to clean, safe drinking and irrigation water, all day, every day.
