OVERVIEW
In Angola, USAID’s Demographic and Health Surveys (DHS) project is collaborating with National Institute of Statistics (INE) and the Ministry of Health (MoH) to field a population-based survey entitled “Inquérito de Indicadores Múltiplos e de Saúde” (IIMS).” This survey is a follow up to the 2015/2016 survey that provided the first provincial-level data comparable to over 90 countries to track progress toward Angola’s development goals.
The 2022 IIMS will provide current information on demographic and health variables using a national representative sample of men, women, and children, including fertility levels, marriage, sexual activity, fertility preferences, family planning methods, childhood and maternal mortality, maternal and child health, breastfeeding practices, nutrition, malaria, HIV/AIDS, domestic violence, and child wellbeing.
Like other DHS collaborations, this survey will use the best and most reliable survey methods available and will utilize sound data collection procedures with robust quality control mechanisms at every stage of survey implementation.
The US President's Malaria Initiative in Angola will contribute $1.8 million through USAID Angola support.
SCHEDULE
Due to the restrictions of the pandemic, the beginning of data collection in 2020 was delayed. The Angola Ministry of Health has adjusted their timeline and expects to start data collection in the third quarter of 2022 and disseminate survey results by the second quarter of 2023.
