Ombudsperson, with USAID assistance, launches Mobile App to help citizens submit complaints on health sector activities

TIRANA, ALBANIA     To improve civil society’s and media’s access to data and their ability to identify and investigate cases of questionable behavior in the country’s health care sector, Albania’s Ombudsperson, with support from the USAID Transparency in Health Engagement Project implemented University Research Company, has launched the Avokati I Popullit (People’s Advocate) Mobile Application.  
 
The ‘Peoples Advocate’ App offers a new platform to collect complaints from citizens with a particular focus on youth – a group that is less active in denunciation of breaches of human rights and reporting instances of corruption.
 
The launch event, attended by representatives from civil society organizations, patients’ associations, international partner organizations, Parliament, and the media, was followed by a training session on the app with the Regional Officers of the Ombudsperson Office. In addition to developing an awareness campaign that will continue the roll out of the App in the weeks ahead, the project also released the following video on how use the Avokati I Popullit Mobile App:

The ‘Peoples Advocate’ App, which can be easily downloaded on a cell phone, is especially useful for citizens living outside of Tirana and those who do not own a computer, as they will be able to both file complaints and follow the progress of its resolution.
