Today, Administrator Samantha Power met with Libya High National Election Commission Chairman Dr. Emad Al-Sayah to discuss the significance of holding credible presidential and parliamentary elections on December 24, 2021.
Administrator Power emphasized the importance of Libyan stakeholders finalizing the legal and regulatory frameworks for the elections, and ensuring that women, persons with disabilities, and other marginalized persons can participate meaningfully as voters, candidates, and decision-makers in the political process. Additionally, Administrator Power reaffirmed USAID’s commitment to providing technical assistance to the elections, and expressed appreciation for Dr. Emad Al-Sayah’s leadership and partnership.
The United States looks forward to timely and credible national elections in Libya, and to supporting the Libyan people through and beyond the elections.
