Michael Greene assumed his position as the new Mission Director for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in Azerbaijan in May 2011.
As Mission Director for Azerbaijan, Greene oversees USAID's programs to support Azerbaijan's transition to a broad-based, market-driven democracy.
Prior to being named as Mission Director, he served as Director of the Regional Platform for Western Afghanistan starting in 2009 where he oversaw all USAID stabilization and development field staff, activities, and office operations. He was the Director of the Office of Alternative Development Programs from 2005-2009, in Peru.
His other posts have included: Director of the Office of Private Sector Development in Croatia in 2000-2005; Supervisory Executive Officer in the Dominican Republic in 1994-1998; Deputy Executive Officer in Bolivia in 1993-1994; Disaster Assistance Coordinator in Bangladesh in 1987-1988; and Manager of the Regional Office for the Coastal Reconstruction Project in Ecuador in 1985-1986.
Mr. Greene has an MBA in International Finance from the George Washington University. He also has a J.D. in Law from the University of Minnesota.
He has received the following awards: Superior Honor Award 2008; Meritorious Group Award 2003; Superior Unit Citation 2002; Reengineering Award 1996; Meritorious Honor Award 1994.
