
Gregory Beck serves as deputy assistant administrator for Asia and has management and oversight responsibilities for all USAID programming in East Asia, Southeast Asia and the Pacific. He has over 15 years of senior-level leadership experience in development and in conflict and post-conflict environments, including in Asia, Africa, the Balkans and the Caucasus.
He was formerly director of the Office of Humanitarian Assistance with CHF International, and he held a number of positions with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) over a period of 13 years, including as senior regional director of Asia and Caucasus and country director in Somalia, Kenya, Rwanda and Croatia. He was program coordinator with USAID’s Office of Transition Initiatives in Rwanda.
During Beck’s career with the IRC, he led emergency response teams in Somalia, Rwanda, Pakistan, Indonesia and Burma.
Beck has a master's degree in environmental engineering from the California State University at Humboldt, and a bachelor's degree in foreign service and international politics from Pennsylvania State University. He speaks Nepalese, and has studied Thai, Kiswahili, Croatian and Kinyarwanda.
