About
U.S. foreign assistance in Cyprus supports activities that promote peace and cooperation between the island's physically separated Greek-Cypriot and Turkish-Cypriot communities. Its focus is on creating conditions conducive to resolution of the long-standing Cyprus conflict, encouraging a durable peace settlement, and addressing the disparities that complicate relations between the two communities.
The program nurtures peace partnerships between the private, public and civil society sectors and encourages bolder reconciliation initiatives. All of the initiatives support the ongoing peace process that officially resumed in September 2008 with direct negotiations facilitated by the United Nations.
