RAPID RESPONSE PROGRAM

Our Work
Current Programs

Student receiving school suppliesIn addition to dedicated long-term technical programs in areas such health and education, USAID's Rapid Reponse program provides critical short-term assistance in situations of dire need.
USAID's Rapid Response is designed to address urgent humanitarian needs as they arise in the realms of niche food security, education, and social services. USAID has set up a humanitarian pipeline that moves up to six trucks per day into Gaza, providing urgently needed household packages of food and non-food items to non-refugee populations. Distributions are carefully coordinated, and are accomplished through a consortium of talented and dedicated local, US and international NGOs.
In the first 10 months of 2009, USAID has provided $18 million of assistance through this humanitarian pipeline. In additional, USAID is also providing $2 million of school clothing and schoolbags to needy Gazan schoolchildren through this effort.
In Fiscal Year 2010, USAID will spend an additional $28 million on the Gaza humaniatarian pipeline and on "early recovery" projects designed to improve health, and to foster educational and vocational opportunities in Gaza. At the same time, USAID's Rapid Response program will continue to provide robust programming for niche social services in the West Bank.
