USAID’s reconciliation programs, funded through the Office of Conflict Management and Mitigation (CMM) within USAID’s Bureau for Democracy, Conflict and Humanitarian Assistance, are part of a worldwide effort to bring together individuals of different ethnic, religious, or political backgrounds from areas of conflict in order to address the root causes of tension and instability.
Reconciliation programs managed by USAID/West Bank & Gaza bring together Palestinians from Israel and the West Bank and Gaza to address issues of common interest and mitigate the effect of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict on program beneficiaries.
Past programs have included training for lawyers, mental health professionals, and urban planners on how they can incorporate conflict-sensitive approaches to their work; joint activities that address issues common to neighboring Israeli-Jewish and Palestinian communities; and the production of an Israeli-Palestinian TV drama series that sought to address the underlying causes of the conflict.
Fact sheets describing current CMM activities in Israel, the West Bank and Gaza are provided on this website. USAID also funds programs that bring together Israeli Arabs and Jews; these programs are managed by the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv.
