Agriculture is central to fostering economic growth, reducing poverty, and improving food security in the Southern African region. More than 70 percent of the rural population depends on agriculture for their livelihoods, and regional economic growth has been constrained by poor performance in the agriculture sector.

Through Feed the Future Market Systems and Partnerships (MSP), USAID advances learning and good practice on market systems development and private sector engagement within USAID, partners, and market actors. This is done by providing and improving upon the evidence, capacity, tools, technical assistance, and/or services required to design, implement, monitor, and/or evaluate activities.

MSP Southern Africa Agricultural Trade & Investment Activity leverages South Africa’s advanced economy and financial system to support mutually beneficial trade and investment in the Southern African region, or to the United States. MSP will increase the value and quality of products traded in the region and therefore increase incomes for producers.
