The U.S. Government’s Ambassador’s Girls’ Scholarship Program has helped girls to stay in school since 2004. Scholarships include tuition, books, school equipment, uniforms and shoes. The program provides basic literacy and improved educational opportunities for girls nine to fourteen years old

USAID has financed a program to facilitate fistula services in Sierra Leone. Since 2008, the USAID-financed program provided surgical interventions for 700 women. During the recovery time, women received instruction in simple literacy and arithmetic.
