April 16, 2007:  When South Africans chose democracy 13 years ago, the U.S. Government offered the best we have, through USAID and other U.S. Government Agencies, to support stability and development here and in the region.  Our goal remains unchanged and so does our partnership with South Africa’s people to pursue a “better life for all.  We use USAID’s resources to generate employment, to increases access to high quality education, to support the development of courts and officials that operate efficiently, to formulate economic policies that attract foreign investors, to build local alliances between business and government; and to furnish health care that responds to the needs of South Africans of all ages, including people with HIV/AIDS.

My USAID colleagues also asked me to especially greet His Excellency, Minister Jeff Radebe, with whom USAID has worked before while he was the Minister of Public Works. We worked together with the Department of Justice not far from here to bring courthouses and justice to people in the former Transkei Homeland.
