September 10, 2003:   Thank you for inviting us to join your community’s celebration of National Arbor Week by launching the “Greening of Potchefstroom” today.  We appreciate this opportunity to take a look with you at the social, economic and environmental importance of trees in a society.  The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is proud to be associated with our partners, Food and Trees for Africa, and the Potchefstroom Municipality and citizens on this very significant occasion.

July 31, 2003:   Thank you for taking time out of your busy schedules to join us today.   We know that your lives are dedicated to helping historically disadvantaged South African children improve their opportunities for health, education and happiness.  We applaud your sacrifices and are glad to support your efforts through the American Ambassador’s Self-Help Program that USAID funds in South Africa and throughout the world.

July 16, 2003: I am honored to stand here tonight before such a distinguished group.  My only regret is that Justice Minister Maduna could not be with us this evening, and I’m sure you’ll join me in wishing him a speedy recovery from his automobile accident earlier today.

March 3, 2003: The United States is proud to be one of South Africa’s most active partners in many areas of health and biomedicine, including tuberculosis.  Our collaboration on TB prevention, control, treatment and research demonstrates how much our countries can accomplish when we work together to save lives and prevent illness.  The short films we are here today to introduce clearly demonstrate the growing productiveness of our partnership.

Court Efficiency Gets Major Boost
January 30, 2003:   When the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Dr Penuell Maduna officially launches the Re Aga Boswa project in Durban on Friday (January 31, 2003), it will be the beginning of one of the most important substantive changes in the history of the criminal justice system in South Africa. A partnership initiative between the justice department, Business Against Crime and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the project will dramatically change the way courts are run by streamlining the system and making them more efficient.
