Highlights of the Week
7-8 December, 2009, the Government of Rwanda (GOR) hosted the Rwanda Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Program (CAADP) Post-Compact High Level Stakeholders Meeting in Kigali. Gayle Smith, Special Assistant to the U.S. President and Senior Director for Relief, Stabilization, and Reconstruction at the National Security Council and Ambassador W. Stuart Symington led the U.S. delegation that included senior representatives from the Departments of State, Treasury, and Agriculture, as well as USAID and the Millennium Challenge Corporation.
On September 8, the World Bank released its Doing Business 2010 report, in which Rwanda is pronounced the world's top reformer over the past year. It is for the first time since Doing Business started tracking reforms that a Sub-Saharan African economy led the world in reforms. Rwanda has steadily reformed its commercial laws and institutions since 2001.
