TDM Creates Internet Service Provider
Opportunities In Mozambique

The following announcement is provided as a service to the general public and the Government of Mozambique's TDM (Telecomunicações de Moçambique - the state telephone operator). The opportunity described in the announcement does not involve USAID financing. No USAID financial or material assistance is being made available to private sector Internet Service Providers; nor is USAID a party to any aspect of the relationship between TDM and qualified ISP firms.

The U.S. Agency for International Development would like to announce that TDM, Telecomunicações de Moçambique, will begin offering Internet access to private sector Internet Service Providers (ISPs) as of June 4th, 1997.

Steps To Becoming An ISP In Mozambique:

1. Apply for a commercial license with the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism. Existing businesses in related areas (e.g., computer sales/service) may not have to get this approval. Foreign businesses should check with the Centro de Promoção de Investimentos (tel: (258 1) 422456/7, fax: (258 1) 422459) for details on special requirements and/or benefits that apply to them.

2. Get an ISP license from the Mozambique National Institute for Communications (Instituto Nacional das Comunicações de Moçambique).
