Investments in basic education are essential to improving Africa's human
capacity. That capacity is the foundation needed to realize increased
productivity, improvements in health status and reductions in fertility,
and the development of democracy.
USAID's basic education objectives in Africa are to:
Expand access to basic schooling, especially for girls and rural
children
Assure a fundamental standard of quality in the delivery of basic
education
Increase national commitment to sustaining resource levels for basic
education sufficient to meet access, equity and quality goals
Improve national capacity to efficiently manage those resources for
the delivery of effective education
Promote public-private cooperation at all levels through participatory
policy dialogue and increased community & NGO involvement.
