Democracy & Governance

USAID's work in democracy and governance (D/G) involves specific D/G activities and activities in other sectors where D/G objectives can be achieved through a cross-sectoral approach. USAID works on a long-term basis with governmental and non-governmental organizations in the areas of rule of law, civil society, decentralization, parliamentary reform, and electoral support.

An example of integrating D/G work in other sectors is in the natural resources management sector, where USAID supports the empowerment of local communities to manage their local natural resources, thereby promoting the devolution of authority and responsibility to the community level.
