The objective of USAID's agricultural programs in Africa is to assist
with the development of the agricultural sector so that the foundation
is strengthened for economic growth and poverty reduction. Agriculture
remains the backbone of most African economies, affecting the well-being
of virtually all Africans in terms of household income, food security,
and the national economy. In addition, food insecurity (the inability
to grow or buy enough food) often results in conflict and malnutrition.
USAID agricultural programs in sub-Saharan Africa focus on:
Increasing agricultural productivity
Increasing income generation and employment
Strengthening regional collaboration to support national development
objectives
Promoting changes in policies, programs, and strategies
