USAID sponsors avian influenza activities in Ha Nam

HA NAM, Vietnam, February 10, 2009 – The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Department of Animal Health (DAH) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), and local authorities today launched an integrated package of activities to prevent and control avian and human influenza in Ha Nam province.

Tourism ministers from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) welcomed a new United States Agency for International Development (USAID) project to work with the ASEAN Tourism Association (ASEANTA) to develop a marketing strategy that promotes Southeast Asia as a regional destination.
The campaign will encourage travelers to visit multiple Southeast Asian destinations, stay longer, and spend more money in the region. The drive is part of the USAID’s ASEAN Competitiveness Enhancement (ACE) project which fosters greater economic integration among ASEAN’s members: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
Vietnam unveils administrative reform website

HANOI – The Government of Vietnam launched a website yesterday created with U.S. assistance that will dramatically enhance administrative reform in Vietnam. The site will enable public officials, entrepreneurs, and private citizens to participate in an ambitious three-year project to eliminate cumbersome administrative procedures that hinder business operations and growth.

The United States Agency for International Development's (USAID) Regional Development Mission in Asia, through funding and technical support to the Kenan Institute Asia, organized a joint cross-border avian influenza discussion exercise between Lang Son and Guangxi province on December 11 and 12, 2008.

HANOI – Da Nang province edged out defending leader Binh Duong to take the top ranking in the 2008 Vietnam Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI) released today in Hanoi. Binh Duong was the top PCI province for the past three years ahead of Da Nang, which had ranked second in previous years.

KON TUM - U.S. Ambassador Michael Michalak today joined representatives of Kon Tum’s People's Committee and other local authorities to inaugurate the Kon Ray Ethnic Minority Boarding School.
