Inputs, Outputs, and Activities: FY 2002 Program: Activities will begin in FY 2003.

FY 2003 Program: USAID programs in FY 2003 will help revitalize agricultural production by increasing the productivity of water used in agriculture. Through technical assistance and training, USAID will strengthen the capacity of provincial irrigation and drainage authorities, area water boards, basin level agencies, water user groups, and other farmers’ organizations to enhance, maintain and manage irrigation, drainage, and on-farm water management systems in targeted areas. Following the principles of integrated water resources management, USAID will enhance the necessary capacity to improve the reliability and dependability of irrigation water deliveries, and manage the supply and demand for water including the use of weather/climate data for forecasting.

FY 2003 funding will also support activities that increase productivity and income generation through community-based development. USAID will support Khushal Pakistan Program (Poverty Alleviation Program) in their efforts to assist communities with improving the management of land and water resources; the quality of their products; and their access to markets and microcredit. This assistance would be provided through agricultural extension services and the strengthening of farmer associations and water user groups. Women will be key members and implementers of development.
