WASHINGTON, DC - The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) will airlift 500 rolls of plastic sheeting to support its humanitarian shelter program in Kosovo. USAID is currently providing over one third of the materials to provide families at least one warm, dry room to get through the winter.
Cormier Textiles, based in York, Maine, is the leading supplier of plastic sheeting for USAID's shelter program. Cormier has supplied USAID with over 7,000 rolls of plastic sheeting which have been used since March 1999 for use in refugee camps in Macedonia and Albania and currently in Kosovo. Over the last two years Cormier has provided an additional 8,000 rolls of plastic sheeting for use in other humanitarian relief operations.
Along with the plastic sheeting, USAID will airlift soccer equipment for the Vietnam Veterans of America who have begun a mine awareness soccer program for children in Kosovo. The flight will leave Pease International Airport in New Hampshire on Tuesday, November 16, 1999 at approximately 2:00 P.M.
