USAID Still Assisting in Nicaragua After Hurricane Felix

Washington, D.C. - The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), on behalf of the American people, will provide an additional $300,000 for post-hurricane recovery after Hurricane Felix made landfall near Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua. This funding will be used to support post-hurricane recovery programs for affected populations.
With disaster funding and material support, USAID's total contribution to date for Nicaragua in the aftermath of Hurricane Felix is $1.5 million. Working with local government officials and non-governmental organization partners on the ground, USAID has supported emergency programs for affected populations and the local purchase of essential supplies. In addition, USAID airlifted 940 rolls of plastic sheeting, 3,552 hygiene kits, 3,875 blankets, 13,000 ten-liter water containers, and other essential supplies to Puerto Cabezas.
USAID will continue to monitor the situation and is prepared to provide additional assistance as needed by the Government of Nicaragua.
The total U.S. Government humanitarian assistance contribution to date for Latin America and the Caribbean for hurricanes in fiscal year 2007 is approximately $4.1 million.
