Washington, D.C. - The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) announced the swearing in of Jane Nandy as the new Mission Director for Bosnia-Herzegovina. Director of U.S. Foreign Assistance and USAID Administrator Randall L. Tobias presided at the event and administered the oath.
"Our goal for Bosnia-Herzegovina, as a developing country, is to continue progress in expanding and deepening democracy, strengthening public and private institutions, and supporting policies that promote economic growth and poverty reduction," stated Ambassador Tobias in his remarks.
Since the signing of the Dayton Peace Accords in 1995, USAID has invested over $1 billion to assist in the reconstruction of war torn Bosnia-Herzegovina in which 250,000 people were killed and millions more lost their homes as a result ethnic fighting. The mission in Bosnia-Herzegovina concentrates on promoting a democratic country with a free market economy in hopes of it becoming a member of the European Union.
Nandy, a Senior Foreign Service Officer, has served with USAID since 1979 in multiple countries including the Philippines, Haiti, Nepal, Romania, Egypt and Bosnia-Herzegovina most recently serving as Deputy Mission Director.
Most recently, Nandy served as Associate Mission Director in Egypt, overseeing large democracy, health, population and education/training portfolios for a life-of-project funding totaling over $1.0 billion.
Originally from Rushford, Minnesota, Nandy graduated from the University of Minnesota with a bachelor's degree in French. She holds a Master's Degree in International Administration from the School for International Training in Brattleboro, Vermont.
