WASHINGTON D.C. - The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) today announced it will distribute more than $7 million in humanitarian assistance to numerous UN agencies working in Lebanon. The U.S. Government (USG) has provided more than $11.7 million in humanitarian assistance to Lebanon to date, as part of the $30 million authorized by Secretary of State Rice on
July 24, 2006.
Yesterday, United States Ambassador to Lebanon Jeffrey D. Feltman and USAID's Mission Director to Lebanon Raouf Youssef provided two emergency medical kits to the International Committee for the Red Cross. A third medical kit arrived in Beirut today.
Each medical kit contains medicines, intravenous fluids, reusable equipment, and medical supplies for 10,000 people for approximately three months. The kits were specifically designed to meet emergency medical needs in crisis situations. Accompanying the kits are standard manuals for clinical guidelines, diagnosis, and treatment in multiple languages.
