Washington, D.C. - The U.S. Government (USG), through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), has now committed a total of $5,000,000 to support relief operations in the earthquake affected area of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. These funds are being provided through the International Federation of the Red Cross, the Indonesian Red Cross and other relief organizations.
As part of this effort, USAID is airlifting relief supplies from its emergency stockpiles, including plastic sheeting for temporary shelter, water containers, hygiene kits and medical supplies. A disaster assistance response team is also being dispatched to support USAID personnel who are already on the ground to help assess the impact of the earthquake, to coordinate USG efforts and recommend additional assistance, if necessary.
