USAID Names New Mission Director For Rwanda

WASHINGTON, DC - The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) announced today, Wednesday, August 14, the swearing in of Henderson Patrick as its new Mission Director to Rwanda. Mr. Patrick was sworn in by Administrator Andrew S. Natsios at the USAID Headquarters in Washington, D.C.

As Mission Director to Rwanda, Mr. Patrick will oversee a $30 million development and humanitarian assistance program, continuing a bilateral program that has channeled close to $500 million in USAID assistance to Rwanda since 1994. The primary goals of the Rwanda program are to promote stability, enhance Rwanda's capacity to achieve food security, improve health systems and promote democracy and reconciliation. Mr. Patrick will work closely with the Government of Rwanda to reduce the level of poverty.

Mr. Patrick is a career Foreign Service Officer with extensive experience in developing countries. His overseas assignments with USAID include tours in Cote D'Ivoire, Rwanda, Haiti, and South Africa. He served as Deputy Mission Director to Guinea and has held senior positions in program management. Prior to joining USAID, Mr. Patrick worked as a consultant for the World Bank in Kenya and as a lending officer at the U.S. Export-Import Bank. Mr. Patrick has also taught university level courses in corporate finance.

Mr. Patrick holds a Bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at Austin and an MBA from George Washington University. He is married to Sue Ford Patrick, a member of the Senior Foreign Service at the Department of State. They have two children.
