USAID Names Cromer New Mission Director for Ghana

WASHINGTON - Sharon Cromer was sworn in Friday as the new Mission Director for Ghana at the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) headquarters in Washington by Administrator Andrew S. Natsios.
USAID's mission in Ghana, which totaled more than $58 million in assistance during the last fiscal year, is one of the agency's largest and most complex programs in West Africa. The program comprises development assistance in the areas of economic growth, democracy, health and private sector support, basic education and food aid.
A sixteen-year veteran of the agency, Cromer began her career as a contracting officer for USAID in Washington in 1986. Her first overseas assignment was to Pakistan in 1988 followed by tours with the Regional Economic Development Services Offices in Cote d'Ivoire, Senegal and Indonesia. Prior to her assignment to Ghana, Cromer was the Deputy Mission Director for Indonesia.
Cromer, a native of Washington, received her bachelor's degree from Barnard College at Columbia University and juris doctorate from the Georgetown University Law Center. She is married to Arnold Sobers and has two daughters, Courtney and Simone.
