The U.S. government is the largest provider of funding to fight the global HIV/AIDS pandemic, with an international budget of $1.17 billion this year. The Global Fund is a key component of the administration's fight against HIV/AIDS, and President Bush was the first world leader to make a pledge to the new fund. The administration is the largest donor to the Global Fund, and is also one of only two donors to make a second pledge to the fund.
The second board meeting of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria will be held in Geneva on October 10-11. U.S. officials will be available on Thursday, October 3, to discuss the U.S. role in shaping the Global Fund, and the progress the fund has made to date and expectations for the future.
