The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the U.S. Energy Association (USEA) will jointly sponsor the Energy Industry Partnership Program (EIPP) Summit meeting on September 9-10, 2002 at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, DC. Over 80 selected energy executives from the nations of the former Soviet Union and the United States will participate in the summit, which will mark the 10th anniversary of the creation of the EIPP, a program developed to assist the nations of the former Soviet Union in transitioning from centrally planned energy economies to energy sectors characterized by market-based decision making and private participation.

The summit meeting will honor the voluntary contributions of executives from Eurasia and U.S. investor-owned utilities, regulatory commissions, and trade associations that conducted, on a pro-bono basis, over 800 exchange visits, seminars, internships and training courses for their partners in the nations of the former Soviet Union since 1992. USAID Administrator Andrew S. Natsios will deliver a keynote address on Monday, September 9 at 10:15 a.m. The summit will feature discussions on such issues as the added value of energy partnerships, improving commercial operations of energy concerns in the region, and promoting efficiency, renewables and independent power projects in the region. A congressional reception honoring the voluntary participation of the U.S. energy industry in the partnership program will be held on the evening of September 9, 2002. Scheduled to participate in the summit meeting are executives from American Electric Power of Ohio (Columbus), AES CILCO (Peoria, IL), Columbia Gas (Columbus, OH), AES IPALCO (Indianapolis, IN), Delta Natural Gas (Winchester, KY), District Energy St. Paul (St. Paul, MN), Energy Association of Pennsylvania (Harrisburg, PA), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (Washington, DC), Illinois Commerce Commission (Springfield, IL) Illinois Power (Decatur, IL), Kentucky Public Service Commission (Frankfort, KY), LG&E Energy Corp. (Louisville, KY), Michigan Public Service Commission (Lansing, MI), Otter Tail Power (Fergus Falls, MN), PJM Interconnect (Valley Forge, PA), PPL Corp. (Allentown, PA), Public Utility Commission of Ohio (Columbus, OH), and U.S. Department of Energy (Washington, DC).
