National Neonatology Forum of India Honors USAID Child Specialist

The National Neonatology Forum of India (NNF) awarded an honorary fellowship
to child specialist and pediatrician Dr. Rajiv Tandon Dec. 12, 2008.
Dr. Tandon, chief of Maternal and Child Health, Nutrition and Urban Health Division at USAID’s mission in India, received the award for his contributions in developing India’s National Child Health Policy. Dr. Tandon has helped to ensure an increased focus on newborn care in the policy.
India’s infant mortality rate is among the highest in the world, with newborn deaths accounting for a significant portion.
NNF is a professional body of approximately 5,000 members, which focuses its work on newborn health and has 18 state chapters across the country. The fellowship was presented to Dr. Tandon by Dr. Surjya Kant Mishra, the country’s Minister of Health and Family Welfare, and Asim Dasgupta, West Bengal’s Minister of Finance, at NNF’s 28th annual convention in Kolkata.
