In coordination with the Coalition Provisional Authority (CPA), the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is working closely with the various United Nations (UN) agencies to provide humanitarian assistance and implement key reconstruction activities in Iraq.

Since February USAID has provided over $500 million in humanitarian and reconstruction assistance to the people of Iraq through UN agencies. This funding includes:

• $424.6 million to the World Food Program (WFP), including $200 million in cash for the purchase of regional food commodities, $186.4 million in Title II and Emerson Trust food commodities, and $37.8 million in funding for logistics, pre-positioning of food, and operations.
• $39 million to UNICEF for education, children's and women's health, and water-sanitation projects.
• $15.6 million to the International Organization of Migration (IOM), including $10.6 million for quick impact projects and property claims issues, and $5 million for programs for displaced persons.
• $10 million to UNESCO for math and science textbook printing and distribution.
• $10 million to the World Health Organization (WHO) to strengthen Iraq's health system.
• $1.2 million to the UN Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Assistance (OCHA) for donor coordination and information, including support for the Humanitarian Information Center (HIC) website and database.

The U.S. Agency for International Development has provided economic and humanitarian assistance worldwide for more than 40 years.
