Most Pakistanis do not know that an HIV/AIDS epidemic is imminent in Pakistan. Unfortunately, the media rarely focuses on HIV/AIDS issues because of religious and social stereotypes. To address this, the USAID-supported National AIDS Control Program carried out an innovative health education campaign around HIV/AIDS issues targeting journalists and editors.
The campaign, “ Pakistan Editors Meet on HIV/AIDS,” was the first of its kind held in Pakistan . This effort by the Government will help to create awareness about HIV/AIDS, and open up a dialogue on prevention and control.
