Sierra Leone

Photo: A young woman who was captured by the RUF.

Captured by the RUF during an ambush enroute, 18-year-old "K.A." recalls that she was separated from her family, brought to a camp in the jungle, and forced to marry the unit commander. She was taught to clean and use weapons, raid villages, and forced to carry looted goods back to the rebel camp. After several years, K.A. was released.
