The youngest of 10 children, "T.L." missed out on both primary and
high school education as a result of war in her homeland. After many years
of displacement, she returned to Tubmanburg. Although eager to learn, T.L. was not able to go to regular
school, because her parents could not afford the school fees charged in public
schools (to pay teacher salaries). For T.L and the approximately 3,600
youths enrolled, the USAID project was the only educational opportunity in
post-war Liberia.
