General Relief
Objectives of general relief include saving lives and providing food to low-income and other vulnerable individuals and populations who are unable to meet basic needs for survival and human dignity. Individuals may be unable to meet these needs due to an external shock, such as a natural disaster or war, or due to socioeconomic circumstances, such as age, illness, disability or discrimination. Such individuals are often dependent to some extent upon outside resources to meet their basic food and livelihood needs. Activities include provision of general or supplementary on-site or take-home rations through unconditional safety nets, and food support to institutions assisting the destitute, terminally ill or highly vulnerable children and youth.
