USAID Office of Economic Growth and Trade (EGAT)
EGAT understands that economic growth is the key to development and that food security and economic security are inextricably linked. EGAT’s approach to boosting economic growth in the developing world is tri-fold: developing well-functioning markets; enhancing access to productive activities; and strengthening the international framework of policies, institutions and public goods. EGAT works to achieve these three principles by: strengthening economic policy and governance; creating sound financial systems; supporting microfinance programs; and building trade capacity. Agricultural development, health, water and sanitation, and education are additional areas in which EGAT concentrates.
