Child Feeding Programs
Food for Peace understands that if children are malnourished or undernourished in the early months and years of their lives, not only will cognitive and physiological complications arise, but their educational and livelihoods opportunities will be reduced. In order to mitigate these future issues, Food for Peace carries out a variety of programs to ensure proper nutrition from the first months of a child’s life. Food for Peace cooperating sponsors implement feeding programs for children in orphanages, hospitals, summer camps, pre-schools, kindergartens, and day care centers. This assistance is delivered both as school feeding and take-home rations. Recognizing the crucial developmental stage that occurs from 6-24 months, Food for Peace has begun supplementary feeding of children 6-24 months old to prevent malnutrition, rather than treating it after it happens. The U.S. Department of Agriculture is a strong partner in these efforts and makes significant contributions to child feeding programs.
